    The District Magistrate West Khasi Hills District, Garod LSN Dykes has promulgated Section 144 CrPC in the entire district prohibiting the dumping or throwing of solid waste or garbage in the Water bodies.

    The order prohibited the discharge of untreated sewage, industrial effluents or any other pollutants into the Water bodies directly or indirectly.

    The District Magistrate warned against any obstruction or interference with the activities of the Competent Authority or other designated agencies tasked with the preservation and protection of the Water bodies.

    The order banned any mining or excavation activities in the Water bodies. It also warned against undertaking any activities including the filling up of Water bodies which may cause damage or reduce the size of the Water bodies.

    Exploit the Water bodies for commercial fishing or aquaculture activities that may disrupt the natural ecosystem, the order said.

    West Khasi Hills police advised tourists to carry garbage bags within them

    The District Magistrate prohibited construction or erection of any structure in the Water bodies.

    Without permission of the Competent Authority, no person shall be entitled to take up any project or scheme of tourism or water-based recreation for better management, preservation and conservation of the Water bodies, said the order.

    The order shall come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.
