A drug supplier was arrested with 1 kg of amphetamine, an illegal psychotropic substance from East Jaintia Hills District on Tuesday.

Joseph Hmangaih Zuala from South Aizawl, Mizoram was arrested from a night super bus (AS 01 LC 6216) at Nongsning village along NH-6, district police chief Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.

Further, after observing all legal provisions under NDPS Act in the presence of an independent witness and during the search a purple colour suitcase was found and on opening the said suit case, one plastic bag was found which contained a white crystalline substance.

The substance on weighing was found to be 1.017 kg and a preliminary test gave a positive result for amphetamine (crystal meth) which is an illegal psychotropic substance, he said.

The SP said as per information available this is a transnational syndicate whereby raw material in shape of crystal meth is transported to neighbouring island countries and it is processed further into methamphetamine tablets. It’s a new network which has been busted.

A case has been registered at Khliehriat police station and further investigation is going on to unravel the entire network, he added.
