Drug peddler arrested, heroin seized at Khliehriat

A drug peddler was arrested with heroin at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills District on Sunday morning. 

Rofique Uddin Ahmed was traveling in a night super bus (AS-OI-FC-7788) and carrying illegal contrabands, district police chief Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.

Accordingly, naka was set up on the NH-06 near Khliehriat PS. 

Subsequently, the said night super was detained alongwith the said drug peddler. 

He said during the search of the vehicle and in the presence of independent witnesses, 20 boxes of yellowish powder was recovered from his bag.

Preliminary test of the powder was conducted and gave a positive result for Heroin. The total gross weight was found to be 274.23 gms.

A case has been registered with the Khliehriat PS under appropriate sections of NDPS Act and investigation is on to trace the forward and backward linkages, the SP said.
