Road transport is the only mode of connectivity from one place to another within the State of Meghalaya and thus road is a lifeline for economic growth and development of any region or place in the State, but it is a matter of grave concern to witness the pathetic and deplorable condition of the 11 kilometres road from Lama Village to Borkhat Village along Indo Bangla Border in East Jaintia Hills District.

The road from Lama to Borkhat is part and parcel of the Rymbai-Bataw- Borghat-Jalalpur Road and the said road connects East Jaintia Hills District to West Jaintia Hills District with a bridge popularly known as Borkhat Bridge inaugurated in 2019.

Borkhat Bridge finally completed and inaugurated today after nearly a decade

The Rymbai-Bataw-Borghat-Jalalpur Road was constructed in the year 2007 when Nehlang Lyngdoh was the MLA of the erstwhile Rymbai Assembly Constituency but after the delimitation process, Borkhat village and Lama Village was tagged to Sutnga Saipung Constituency while Bataw Village and Rymbai Village was clubbed under Khliehriat Constituency.

The road from Lama to Borkhat after it was constructed in 2007 was neither maintained nor repair by the authority concerned, rued the headman of Borkhat Village Kyrmen Swer while talking to syllad.com

Left with no option, the Dorbar Shnong Natbor and the Dorbar Shnong Borkhat tied up together along with their respective residents and carried out the repair of the said road from Lama to Borkhat with whatever possible within their financial limitations.
