The opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Sunday said the crumbing of the dome is an “ominous” sign for the state and its governance.

“It is an ominous sign for the people of the State. When the temple of democracy is being built, it is expected that there should not be any compromise. The State Assembly, especially the Floor and The Well of the House signifies hope, upholding of constitutional & democratic values, protection of the State’s and people’s interest. the crumbling of the dome is an ominous sign for the State and its governance,” Opposition chief whip George B Lyngdoh said in a statement.

Castigating the NPP-led BJP-backed MDA government, Meghalaya Trinamool Congress tweeted, “An administration that is hollow at its core cannot be trusted with the good governance of Meghalaya. The collapse of the new Assembly Building is a metaphoric reminder of the corruption and ineptitude in the state. The @SangmaConrad-led MDA Government must take accountability!”

“While the Chief Minister is busy playing politics & horse-trading, Meghalaya is crumbling. Corruption cannot be hidden! People of Meghlaya are watching you and everything will be remembered,” it said.

The party said Meghalaya witnessed yet another infrastructural collapse as the dome of the under-construction Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s dome crumbled.

It added the ineptitude & corruption of the NPP-led MDA government is yet again evident.

Built on approximately 80 acres of land, the project amounts to Rs 127 Crore.
