    The World Environment Day was celebrated on Monday at Lion Mission Compound community hall Jowai on the Theme: ‘Only One Earth’ wherein Baianti Blah, Block Development Officer, Thadlaskein C&RD graced the occasion as the chief guest and Puramon Kynjing, Daloi Jowai Elaka was the guest of honour.

    Organized by the Meghlaya Basin Management Agency- CLLMP, Jowai in collaboration with the District Administration.

    Speaking on the importance of the day Blah said that the day is being celebrated to remind each one of us of our own responsibility towards the environment.

    She said, saving environment has to be a collective effort of each and everyone, she therefore urged each and everyone to take a pledge do their bits at their own level, to contribute by planting more trees, keeping the environment clean, to avoid plastic usage instead carry along grocery bags from home, carry along own water bottle and to change the way we decide on how to go about in our daily lives to live in harmony with the environment.

    The World Environment week was celebrated from 1st June, 2022, as part of the celebration the office of Meghalaya Basin Management Agency has conducted a series of programs including tree plantation at DC Quarter, Municipal premises, Adventist Training School and Block Development Office, Thadlaskein, around 700 saplings were planted and competitions that includes Essay writing and drawing on the Topic –‘Only One Earth’-Living sustainability in harmony with Nature and Debate on the topic – “Urbanisation- A boon or Bane” 20 schools participated in the competition. The winners were awarded with certificates.

    Alan Niangti, President Synjuk Waheh Chnong Jowai, teachers, students, officers and staff of MBMA  took part in the celebration.
