    The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District has promulgated an Order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting illegal quarrying within the Right of Way (ROW) of NH-44 (E) Shillong-Nongstoin Road between 7th and 9th Km within East Khasi Hills District without obtaining Quarry Permit and other Clearance Certificates from the Competent Authority(s).

    The Order is necessitated in view of the notice received that rampant and numerous illegal quarrying of stone and sand activities is taking place along the NH-44 (E) Shillong-Nongstoin Road between 7th and 9th Km, and the order received from the National Green Tribunal, Principal Bench, New Delhi restrains any person, company or authority to carry out any mining and quarrying activity anywhere in the country without obtaining valid Quarry Permit and other Clearance Certificates prescribed by EIA Notification 2006 of MoEF and CC, Government of India and as per rules prescribed by the Government of Meghalaya.

    The order also states that such activities may pose a great danger to the road structures and road commuters as the side drains are blocked by boulders thereby causing the debris and mud to overflow on the pavement. Anyone found in violation of this order is liable for prosecution under Section 188 CrPC.

    This order come into force with immediate effect and remain in force till further orders.
