    The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), West Jaintia Hills District, in collaboration with the Jaintia Hills District Bar Association, celebrated the 79th Independence Day on Friday at the District and Sessions Court premises, Khliehtyrshi, Jowai.

    The celebration began with N.A. Khan, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, hoisting the National Flag in the presence of Judicial Officers, members of the Jaintia Hills District Bar Association, panel lawyers, staff of the DLSA, staff of the District and Sessions Court, and staff of the Office of the Prosecuting Inspector, followed by the National Anthem.

    N.A. Khan, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, addressed the gathering, emphasising the significance of Independence Day, honouring the sacrifices of the freedom fighters, and urging everyone to uphold the constitutional values of justice, equality, and unity.

    As part of the Independence Day celebration, a 4 KM Marathon was held in the morning, attracting enthusiastic participants from all age groups. The day also featured a thrilling Tug of War competition, a vibrant Traditional Fashion Show highlighting local attire, and musical entertainment by Small Town Roots Revival, a band from Jowai under the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroot Music Project. Their lively performance added a festive and engaging atmosphere to the event.

    The vote of thanks was delivered by the Secretary of DLSA. The celebration left participants with a renewed sense of pride and unity, as well as a commitment towards building a just and inclusive society.
