District Magistrate orders restrictions on heavy vehicles over Umiam Bridge

The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi district, Nongpoh has imposed Section 144 CrPC, thereby prohibiting the plying of heavy vehicles exceeding the permissible limit of 15 (fifteen) MT gross weight i.e total weight of vehicles plus weight of goods, over the Umiam bridge until retrofitting of distress numbers (i.e girder beam and deck slab).

This is done as per report received on Safety Audit of the Bridge over Spillway of the Umiam Concrete Dam recommended by the IIT, Guwahati, restriction on plying of heavy loaded vehicles on the bridge over spillway of the Uniam Concrete Dam is necessary to prohibit.

In view of the urgency of the matter, this order is being passed exparte.
