The District Magistrate of East Jaintia Hills, Shivansh Awasthi, IAS, has issued a prohibitory order regarding firecrackers for Diwali celebrations on 1 November 2024.

The order prohibits the sale, purchase, and procurement of foreign-made firecrackers. The use of joined firecrackers (series crackers or laris) is also banned, along with any firecrackers generating noise levels exceeding 125 dB (A) or 145 dB (C) at a distance of four meters. Bursting firecrackers within 100 meters of hospitals, nursing homes, healthcare centers, educational institutions, courts, religious places, or any designated silent zones is prohibited.

Firecrackers may only be used between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM, and can only be sold by licensed traders who sell approved products.

This order takes effect immediately and will remain in force until the end of the Diwali celebrations.
