East Khasi Hills district administration has warned action against local taxis for violating COVID-19 protocols.

This came after many complaints were received regarding flouting of COVID-19 protocols by local taxis.

In her order, deputy commissioner, Isawanda Laloo has directed taxi drivers to comply with the seating capacity as prescribed by the Transport department, wear masks without fail and use hand sanitizer regularly.

She also said passengers can report any violation by sharing the vehicle details to her office or to the nearest police station.

The DC also asked the local taxis to display the rate chart published by the District Transport Officer prominently in the vehicle. “The District Transport Officer will carry out frequent checks on the same and any violation of the same may result in suspension of license,” she said while adding laxity in following COVID-19 protocols will be met with stringent action.
