    East Jaintia Hills district administration on Thursday ordered to closed Umkiang Local Market from April 29 until further orders.

    In an official press communique, the District Magistrate stated that it has been reported that a large number of traders and merchants from across the interstate border (Malidor side) who entered and returned back on a daily basis and especially on the Umkiang market days without following the health protocols and advisories.

    He also stated that such behavior of the people from Assam and Meghalaya who are doing business transactions both cash and kind is a threat of spreading the coronavirus in the District without following the advisories and instructions of the Government.

    Therefore, in view of the above, the Umkaing Local market shall cease to operate with immediate effect until further orders. Anyone found violating the order shall be book in accordance with the law.
