Directive issued for safe return of polling parties in West Garo Hills District

Downcasted after the tragic demise of one polling official in a road mishap on Sunday, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer West Garo Hills District issued a eight point directive with a view to ensure the safety of all Polling Personnel & Security Personnel on their return to Tura after the completion of Poll.
All the vehicles of Polling Personnel shall be escorted by the Sector Magistrate/Sector Police Officer and the CAPF vehicles (If available).
Use of alcohol or any other intoxicating substance is strictly prohibited during the polling Duty and in the Polling Station premises.
Before starting from the Polling Station, the Presiding Officer shall ensure that the driver is not under the influence of alcohol.
The Presiding Officer shall ensure that the driver gets enough sleep before the
movement.
The maximum speed limit shall be 40 KM per hour only for all vehicles being used for polling purposes.
Before starting from Polling Station the driver should ensure that the vehicle is in good condition and the brakes are functioning properly.
Any Polling Personnel & Security Personnel in the vehicle should not tell the driver to drive fast so as to reach the destination early.
The receiving counter shall remain open till the arrival of last polling party and
therefore there is no need to rush.
Any violation of the above directives would result in appropriate disciplinary action against the defaulter.
