Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma allocated portfolios to the newly sworn-in minister Sanbor Shullai while also making changes in the departments held by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.

Tynsong will now also take charge of Health and Family Welfare, a department held by former minister Alexander Laloo Hek before he was dropped from the cabinet.

The deputy chief minister will continue with his existing departments which include Housing, Parliamentary Affairs, Public Works Department (Roads), Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Cooperation Department.

The three-time legislator from South Shillong on the other hand was given the Labour department and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department, which were earlier held by the Deputy Chief Minister.

He will also take charge of the Arts & Culture, Home (Passport) and Prisons.

Portfolios of the other ministers will remain the same.

Shullai was sworn-in as new minister of the three and a half years NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Senior BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah legislator Alexander Laloo Hek had said that he was never informed about the decision to drop him as cabinet minister and even accused the Chief Minister of “back stabbing”.

Hek admitted that the reshuffle for the BJP share came as a ‘rude shock’.

“This is very sad. I was not informed neither by the party nor the government,” he had said.
