  • Demarcate hazardous zone in Rivers to prevent loss of lives

    In a bid to prevent any further loss of life in River Umngot following the recent drowning cases where one mother and eight years old daughter lost their lives, the Additional Deputy Magistrate, Amlarem Civil Sub Division ordered for demarcation of hazardous zones by the villages in areas where the river is most treacherous.

    The order was imposed on the request of the Sub Divisional Police Officer, Amlarem vide letter No. AMLJH-DA/8/2020/7 dated the 14th October, 2020, that there has been a recurrent loss of life by drowning at river Umngot, Shnongpdeng of persons indulging in swimming activities and fishing and that the threat persists as the area is now frequented by numerous fishermen from all over the State.

    The Additional Deputy Magistrate said that decision is taken in the interest and safety of all who frequent the river and to prevent the recurrence of loss of life.

    This order come into force with immediate effect until further orders.

    The order specified that all persons indulging in swimming and fishing on the Umngot River and other rivers within Amlarem Sub Division should wear Life Jackets.
