Power Minister AT Mondal on Thursday said the decrease in the water level of the Umiam dam has nothing to do with the repairing of the dam.

Speaking to reporters, Mondal said that he got many calls from people expressing concern about the decrease in the water level and alleged that it may be after repairing of the dam

“No, it has nothing to do with the repair of the dam. The water is at that level because we timed our generation,” he clarified.

“As we promised that there will be no loadshedding in the lean period especially during the exam season, we kept the water there and we did not generate much power from Umiam as we are managing from some other sources due to that water being there. Now water is reduced but it doesn’t mean that leakage is there and that water seepage is there. It is because we have started generating as there is no point keeping water at this juncture as monsoon has arrived,” the minister further explained.
