    In a bizarre turn of events, a passenger traveling in an interstate tourist vehicle discovered a decomposed male body while attending to the call of nature along National Highway-6 in East Jaintia Hills District on May 18.

    Police informed that on the said at around 7:00 AM, a passenger traveling from Mizoram in a Tata Sumo stopped to attend nature’s call near the roadside bushes at Kuliang area on NH-06. The passenger saw a suspected dead body wrapped in a blanket emitting a foul odor and immediately reported the matter to the Umkiang Police Patrol Post (PPP) staff, who were regulating traffic on the highway.

    Police said that SI P. Phawa and accompanying staff promptly visited the place of occurrence, approximately 8 km away from the Kuliang PPP on NH-06.

    Police said as per inquest was conducted at the spot no visible injury marks were seen due to the advanced decomposition of the body.

    Police said the deceased was estimated to be around 35-40 years old, 5’5″ tall, with a medium build and fair complexion. The deceased bore fair complexion and wore a black trouser, green T-shirt, and a white thread tied around his waist, suggesting possible Hindu spiritual beliefs.

    After completing the necessary formalities, the dead body was shifted to Civil Hospital, Khliehriat, for post-mortem examination and kept in the morgue for identification.
