The Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in East Jaintia Hills District issued a public advisory regarding a potentially hazardous situation near Shymplong Village.

According to reports received by the authorities, the vicinity of the 400 KV D/C Silchar-Byrnihat-Azara Transmission line of NETC (Tower no.152) has been disturbed due to the widening of the village road by the Office of the PWD (Roads). Furthermore, concerns were raised about a landslide near the tower, with the risk of further landslides exacerbated by heavy rainfall.

In response to this situation, the Executive Engineer of PWD (Roads) NEC Division, Khliehriat, has been directed to take immediate measures to stabilize the area and mitigate the risk of additional landslides.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of public safety, stating that under the provision of Section 34 (c) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, residents are urged to exercise caution and maintain a safe distance from the affected tower until reinforcement work is completed by the relevant authorities.
