  • DC Hamren & DC Jowai resolved to urge KAAC to withdraw their entry gate from Khanduli

    The District Administrations of the two districts viz, West Jaintia Hills District and West Karbi Anglong District on Wednesday resolved to urge Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to withdraw their entry tax collection gate from Khanduli village and put it up in another location.

    The resolution was passed in the joint meeting held in the conference room of Deputy Commissioner Office Jowai.

    The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner West Jaintia Hills BS Sohliya, Deputy Commissioner, West Karbi Anglong Krishna Baruah, Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills C Syrti, Superintendent of Police West Karbi Anglong Indranil Baruah, Deputy CEM JHADC and MDC’s among others.

    Sohliya said, “The joint meeting resolved to maintain peace and tranquility along Assam Meghalaya Border.”

    On new developmental works, Sohliya said, “Both the DC’s agreed to inform each other and we should not obstruct the developmental work.”

    On recent clash in Khanduli village due to setting up of entry tax get by KAAC, Sohliya said the meeting resolve to appeal to KAAC to shift the location of the entry tax gate from Khanduli to another location which are not against the villagers in the border.

    It may be mentioned that the DC’s meeting was held after the people of Khanduli in the fist of anger destroyed the signboard set up by KAAC on Monday. The signboard was again set up by KAAC on the same day.

    The traditional heads from Khanduli met DC Jowai on Tuesday and complained that KAAC put up the signboard for entry tax is within Khanduli, Meghalaya. The Assam also counter claimed that land belonged to KAAC and is well inside the territory of Assam.
