    The Central Silk Board (CSB), under the Ministry of Textiles, successfully concluded a 15-day Faculty Development and Seri-Entrepreneurial Training Programme on “Sustainable Practices in Sericulture and Surface Enhancement of Silk Fabric” on January 31.

    The programme, which began on January 17, was jointly organized by the Department of Textiles & Apparel Designing, College of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, and the Central Muga Eri Research and Training Institute (CMER&TI), Lahdoigarh.

    Aimed at enhancing knowledge and entrepreneurial skills among faculty, students, researchers, and serial entrepreneurs, the programme engaged 39 participants from reputed institutions and the sericulture sector. It covered a range of topics, including sustainable sericulture, weaving techniques, and modern and traditional surface enhancement methods.

    The valedictory ceremony, held at the Faculty of Community Sciences, AAU, Jorhat, featured a welcome address by Dr. Binita Baishya Kalita, Head and Professor, Department of Textiles & Apparel Designing. Dr. Manjunath RN provided an overview of the programme, while distinguished speakers, including Dr. Kartik Neog, Director, CSB-CMER&TI, and Dr. Mamoni Das, Dean, Faculty of Community Sciences, emphasized the importance of sustainable sericulture practices and entrepreneurial opportunities.

    Other notable speakers, Dr. Binoy Kumar Medhi, Director of Student Welfare, and Nibedita Baruah, Deputy Registrar, underscored the role of research and innovation in advancing the sericulture industry. The event also saw active participation from department heads, faculty members, staff, and students.

    The event concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, acknowledging the achievements of the participants. Dr. Sunita Boruah, Assistant Professor, CCSc., AAU, Jorhat, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty, resource persons, and staff for their contributions in making the programme a success.
