Chief Secretary MS Rao has requested all citizens to restrict movement to the absolute minimum to prevent spread of infection.

“This is extremely important so that the health systems are not over burdened,” Rao said in a statement issued on Sunday.

His statement came in the wake of the state witnessing one of its highest increase in new COVID-19 cases.

Stating that the total new cases have touched 321 and 5 deaths were reported, Rao said, “This is a significant increase from the average number of cases during the previous week.”

Out of the 321 new cases, 97 cases are from those who have returned or travelled to the state, he said adding most other cases have been reported from various clusters across the state.

According to him, hospital bed occupancy is also rising sharply.

Meanwhile, the chief secretary also requested citizens who are above the age of 45 years of age should actively come forward and get themselves vaccinated at the nearest vaccination centre.

COVID appropriate behaviour and vaccination are the only remedies we have against COVID-19, he asserted.
