The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP)in  Meghalaya has urged the Centre to waive educational fees to students across the country for three months from April to June in view of the nationwide lockdown to combat COVID-19 pandemic.

In his letter to the Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, LJP state president Jamil Ahmed said in a situation where the people are struggling for food and survival, it is almost impossible for them to pay the school fees of their children and the government needs to think on this serious issue.

“I therefore, as a responsible citizen of the country and as a public leader having felt the plight of the people, do hereby most fervently request your noble self to kindly exempt/waive the fees of the pupils/students for at least 3 months from April to June, charged by the educational institutions of all levels in the entire country to ease the financial burden of the common man caused by the said lockdown in the country,” Ahmed said.

Meanwhile, the LJP state president also congratulated the Government of India under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for handling the COVID-19 situation effectively and for timely announcing the lockdown and its extension thereon.
