Court sends rape accused to 3 yrs simple imprisonment

A lower court has sentenced one Bison Surong of Mynsang village to three years simple imprisionment for raping a woman.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger on Tuesday said, “…during trial, the Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class, East Khasi Hills, Shillong found him guilty of offence and accordingly vide judgment order dated September 13, 2021 sentenced the…accused to simple imprisonment of three years and one month with a fine of Rs 1,000.”

He said on August 27, 2018 at 10 pm Surong of Mynsang village Block-B, (permanent address) Lynshing village, East Khasi Hills – attempted to commit rape on one woman at her residence.

In this connection, a case vide Madanrting police station was registered and the case endorsed to the investigating officer (IO) WPSI P Wahlang.

After thorough investigation by the IO, the accused was chargesheeted under section 354/354A (1) (i) (ii) (2) IPC.
