Conrad urges Centre for separate Meghalaya Cadre

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and sought the creation of a separate Meghalaya cadre of the All India Services.
“As you are aware, right now we have a joint cadre of Meghalaya-Assam and no other states in the country have got a joint cadre. I have requested the home minister that if the cadre of Assam and Meghalaya could be segregated and Meghalaya could get its dedicated officials, it would be a great benefit to the state,” Sangma said.
He also raised the demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP). “I reminded the home minister once again, especially keeping in mind the current situation along the international border and the different situations unfolding in the neighbouring country. The only option that we have is to go for ILP, and based on that we once again urge the home minister to consider it,” he stated.
On the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule, he said, “We had passed a resolution in the Assembly and multiple times, we have submitted a memorandum urging him to consider inclusion of Garo and Khasi language.”
Sangma also requested that a road in New Delhi be named after the late Purno Agitok Sangma, calling him “a national figure who always raised his voice for the North East, for the tribals and for the minorities.”.
