Congress leader and opposition chief whip Saleng A Sangma on Monday said his party is yet to decide on the candidate for the Tura parliamentary seat.

Speaking to reporters, Sangma said, “We haven’t talked about it (MP candidate for Tura) with our president. The Congress has not decided not only about Tura but even for other parts of India also.”

Asked about if he would be the official candidate of the Congress from Tura, Sangma said, “Right now I cannot comment on that one. Though I am MLA, I am responsible leader so I have to look after the affairs of the party and then for the people only as of now.”

Sangma said the Congress does not have to follow other political parties just because they have announced the names of their MP candidates. He said the Congress is still silent on the matter and is organizing the party at BCC, PCC level.

The NPP has recently claimed that it will snatch away the Shillong parliamentary seat from Congress this time. The Gambegre legislator said, “All political parties talk about the confidence in every election.”

Sangma said that the people still believe in the Congress.

“I think people believe in Congress though it was cheated and betrayed  by some leaders just before the elections but I don’t think this time they will do the same thing because people believe in Congress and definitely they will come back to Congress,” he said.

Further, Sangma also blamed the role of money power for preventing good leaders from joining politics in Meghalaya.
