The Congress is yet to decide on the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming 2023 assembly elections in the state.

AICC in-charge Manish Chatrath said that he does know who will be the Congress CM’s face as they have not finalized even one ticket as of now while replying to a query if the MPCC chief Vincent H Pala will be the face of the party in 2023.

Pala, who is also Shillong MP, however said that he has decided to contest the upcoming elections because as a president he has to lead from the front.

“As to who should be the chief minister that normally as a party we don’t decide before the elections,” he maintained.

“I am fighting the election because I think I should lead from the front. I am very happy  to be an MP but at the same time we have to look after the state,” Pala said. According to him, his decision was also based on the suggestions of his friends.

When asked, Chatrath informed that the process is on for the selection of candidates for the party.

“People who really believe in the development of the state are going to join us. We are already in the process, they are not only keen to fight for the party as a candidate and also to support and help the other candidates of the party,” he said.

The AICC leader also defended Pala by saying that “He is not anybody coming from Delhi, he is from Meghalaya” as he reacted to BJP leader Sanbor Shullai allegation that Pala was responsible for the downfall of the Congress in Meghalaya.  Chatrath said in politics, friends and enemies they keep moving together and that is not a problem at all.
