Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Pynshngain N Syiem on Monday said the party will not have a problem winning a good number of seats in 2023.

This is because the Congress already has its vote bank in each and every constituency, Syiem told reporters when asked that the party is left without any sitting legislators.

The Congress had recently suspended five legislators for supporting the BJP-backed MDA government.

Syiem also cited that the NPP in 2013 got only 2 MLAs but now they have more than 20 plus in the 60-member House.

“To say that because no MlAs are with us, we are less confident, it depends on  the electorate because as of now the electorate are very much with the Congress party,” he said.

Stating that the Congress has a new vision and new track, Syiem said it would be good for the party to have new faces working together with old faces to ensure the party wins a good number of seats.

He also informed that there will be many political dramas that will unfold especially after the Assembly’s budget session.

“We are waiting for some leaders who may join the Congress. We are discussing with them from time to time to join us,” he said.

When asked, Syiem said that the party at the same time had also set up a team to reach out to the five MLAs for them to come back to the party. “Our door is always open for them,” he said while adding that there is also huge pressure on them from the party workers to return to the party.
