    The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has observed the 136th Foundation Day of the Indian National Congress in Shillong on Monday. 

    MPCC working president, James S Lyngdoh unfurled the party tricolour and inaugurated the programme held at the Congress Bhawan. 

    The meeting was presided by the general secretary, Sanjay Das.

    Addressing the occasion, Lyngdoh took pride in the fact that he belongs to the oldest political party – INC whcih was launched in Mumbai (then called Bombay) on this day in 1885 by its founder president, WC Banerjee & founder general secretary AO Hume. 

    While taking of the glorious history of the party, Lyngdoh recalled how in 1919, Mahatma Gandhi had transformed the party into a mass movement which brought freedom from the British rule. 

    He also spoke of the contributions of all Congress Prime Ministers, and Presidents, Pandi Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh in ensuring stability, peace, progress along with building of a strong secular India. 

    He called upon the young generation to read the glorious history of Congress and propagate it among the masses. 

    Even in spite of the ongoing Christmas festival and COVID-19 protocol, qute a large number of party leaders attended and addressed the historic programme. 

    Prominent among those who attended and spoke on the occasion included MPMC president Joplin S Shylla, MPYC general secretary Fernandez S Dkhar, NSUI Meghalaya state president Banshairailang Pyngrope and party functionaries
