SHILLONG: Opposition Congress today demanded immediate investigation into the burning of a wooden bridge at Nonglait village under Mawsynram in East Khasi Hills District.

“The matter needs to be investigated as this is the second attempt by miscreants to burn wooden bridges in the area,” Mawsynram MLA Himalaya M Shangpliang said while participating in the debate on the Governor’s Address in the Assembly here on Monday.

He informed that there are a total of 13 wooden bridges along the Mawsynram-Hatmawdon road.

Stating that he had already submitted proposals for converting all wooden bridges to RCC, the opposition member however lamented that there has been no response from the public works department (PWD).

He however expressed happiness that the deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong when approached has assured to take necessary action on the matter.
