AICC general secretary in-charge Meghalaya Manish Chatrath on Thursday expressed confidence to win both Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, to be held next year.

Speaking to reporters, Chatrath said, “I think it is going to be a change as far as Lok Sabha elections are concerned and we are confident both the seats we will win.”

“As far as our local MPCC team under the leadership of Pala, we are very sure and positive that we will be electing both the candidates and giving it to the leadership because if you see after this government has come in the month of February-March, things are changing. Whatever they had promised they are not able to deliver,” he said.

He said, “In the last term also what was promised they hardly delivered. So now people slowly-slowly understand what this government is up to. Unemployment is at its peak.”

He said preparation of the party is going in full swing.

The AICC incharge Meghalaya said, “As far as elections in Khasi Hills and Garo region is concerned, we are well equipped with very senior leaders and there are not one, there are many candidates but in the end it is the screening committee at Delhi which decides and further it goes to the central election committee which decides which leader has a better chance of winning.”

On the Congress’ prospect in 2024, Chatrath said that many parties have joined the INDIA alliance and it is a strong alliance with very big leaders in respective states.

“If I start from Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab – so we have big states and big leaders who are chief ministers. Bihar again, Maharashtra so this alliance is a very big alliance with a team of senior leaders whereas on the other side they have just one leader. You tell me which party is there. You name the party if you recall,” he said.

“Let’s see, maybe later in the day we still have six months left so later in the day those who are looking after this will be in a better position to answer this question,” he added.
