SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has alleged “match fixing” in the just concluded bye-election to the Shella Assembly seat.

Sangma told reporters on Tuesday that the party is trying to find out on the matter.

It may be mentioned here that there were allegations that the Congress candidate Batyngshain Ryngnga had surrendered before the Shella bypoll.

“Match fixing and corrupt practice in the whole electoral process is a matter of concern. We must take it as an alarm bell in the future if you want to see the spirit of true democracy sustain,” he said.

Asked whether action would be taken against the candidate, the former chief minister said, “that you leave it to the party.”
