    The office of the District Disaster Management Authority, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai, in collaboration with the representatives from the Fire Service & Emergency office Jowai, the office of the Superintendent of Police, Civil Defence, and the District Medical & Health Officer, Jowai, conducted a comprehensive training and mock drill on disaster management preparedness at the 100-bedded MCH Hospital, Panaliar, Jowai, on Wednesday.

    Dari Lyngdoh, District Disaster Management Officer, stated that the primary purpose of organizing the orientation program and mock drill was to enhance disaster preparedness and emergency response capability among hospital staff.

    Meghalaya recruited 2500 health care professionals over past six years

    Station Officer (SO) Anthony Rymbai, from the Fire Service and Emergency office, elaborated on fire safety measures and the proper use of fire extinguishers. He demonstrated the different types of fire extinguishers, their specific uses, and provided step-by-step instructions on how to operate them effectively in an emergency.

    Civil Defence personnel, F Lamare, demonstrated improvised search and rescue methods, handling casualties, using makeshift rescue tools, and ensuring the safe evacuation of patients.

    The representative from the office of the Superintendent of Police emphasized the role of the police in maintaining law and order, assisting with evacuations, and managing crowds during emergencies.

    Dr. (Mrs) Embhah Chullet, Medical Superintendent, MCH, expressed that the training and mock drill conducted would help the Hospital Disaster Management Team and hospital staff better understand their roles and responsibilities during emergencies.
