CM inaugurates new building of Mt. Sinai School in Tura

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today inaugurated the new building of Mt. Sinai Secondary School, Tura.

The new building was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹ 2 cr funded under Supporting Human Capital Development of the Asian Development Bank.

As part of the project 7 new classrooms were constructed, including Science lab, library, computer room, digital classroom, arts and craft room, and girls activity room.

It also included instalment of Computer Equipment, Digital Classrooms, Furniture, Teacher & Subject Expert Training, Meghalaya School Improvement Plan, Digital Library & Books, Science Lab Equipment.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister underscored on the importance of skill based learning.

“Government has commitment to tap the potential of the youth. With this objective in mind, the State Govt has come up with the youth policy wherein the core component is to enable that every youth in the state is given an opportunity to horn their skills and talent of their choice”, he said.

He further said that Government of Meghalaya is set to roll out the programs “One Skill, One talent” for the youth to give a platform for the youth to invest in the sector they prefer to take up as career.

“We want to ensure that our youth are prepared for the future and learn and groom their set of skills, which will enable them to be ready for the future,” the Chief Minister added.

“We plan to channelize the energy of the youth through the youth policy. This is an important task ahead for the Government and we are systematically working to achieve this target,” he said.

Talking about holistic education by ensuring proper infrastructure and learning environment, he said, “We need to instill values in young people and bring them up to become responsible citizens of society”.

He also reiterated on the ambitious programme of the government to upgrade about 800 LP Schools across Meghalaya.

“We have identified lower primary schools across Meghalaya, wherein upgradation of infrastructure will begin soon”, he added.

He also took the opportunity to inform the gathering on various infrastructure development interventions taken by the government to facelift urban beautification of Tura town, which also included, the State of the art PA Sangma Stadium, District Museum, and the Tribal Research Institute.

Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills Ram Singh said that upgradation of infrastructure is one aspect but we must encourage students to focus on their goals, and encourage leadership among.

He also motivated the students to avail opportunities in mainstream competitive exams like IITs, and in UPSC and SSCs, where reservation for tribal students were available.
