  • CM assures to examine demand for inquiry into poor performance of MCCL

    A delegation led by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chief, Titosstar Chyne has demanded the state government to remove the Chief General Manager of the Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL) and institute an inquiry into the alleged ‘poor performance’ of the company.

    “We have demanded the government to remove the CGM of the MCCL and to institute a probe into the poor performance of the company,” Chyne, also MDC from Sohra, told reporters after meeting the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday.

    He said the delegation comprising of representatives from the Hima Sohra, Elaka Mawmluh and stakeholders of MCCL have also requested the intervention of the chief minister to release the salaries of the employees pending for the past 6-8 months.

    Chyne said the chief minister has assured to examine the proposal and suggestions submitted by the delegation.

    Asked, the KHADC chief said that the MCCL has failed to achieve the various targets for improving the plant despite huge amount of funds have been sanctioned by the state government for the purpose.

    “There has been absolutely no concrete outcome. Therefore, we insisted that an inquiry should be set up to find the reasons behind the underperformance of the company,” he added

    In its memorandum submitted to chief minister, the executive dorbar of the Sohra Syiemship informed that the meeting of the dorbar held on July 25 has resolved to urge the government to release all financial dues to the workers and suppliers.

    “The meeting also requested the government to provide an opportunity/option to the present employees to continue working in the company or to opt for a voluntary retirement scheme and to find ways and means to modernise or revamp the company with a definite solution that will turn this public undertaking into a profit based industry,” the memorandum said.
