    In a case of gross medical negligence, a female patient discharges a piece of gauze from her body while attending the call of nature at her residence in Ri Bhoi District a week later after she was formally discharged from Civil Hospital, Nongpoh.

    This incident of medical negligence came to light after the woman reported the matter to the leaders of the Khasi Students Union, Nongpoh Circle who promptly took up the matter with the hospital authorities.

    The KSU Nongpoh Circle by Rishot Lapang Assistant Secretary on Monday met Dr. D Blah the Medical Superintendent of the said Hospital and lodged a formal complaint where they informed that the female patient is a resident of Umden Manipur was admitted to Civil Hospital Nongpoh on May 10 this year for childbirth and was discharged on May 14 this year.

    However, after the patient reached home on May 20 this year, she saw a piece of cotton gauze discharged from her while urinating.

    Speaking to the media after meeting Blah, Rishot Lapang claimed the hospital authorities acknowledged that a mistake had occurred during the treatment process.

    He also said that Dr. Blah accepted responsibility and the patient has been provided with proper medical care.

    The KSU leaders urged the hospital authorities to exercise greater care and responsibility in treating patients, emphasizing that such negligence can cause serious harm and distress to those under their care.
