Civil engineering student commits suicide by hanging inside Shillong Polytechnic girls’ hostel

A student of the Shillong Polytechnic committed sucide inside the Girls’ Hostel on Monday morning

The incident took place at around 2 am. The deceased has been identified as Diana Dimre Ch Marak (24), a resident of Upper Babupara, Tura in West Garo Hills District, She was a student of Shillong Polytechnic at Mawlai studying Civil Engineering (4^th Semester), police said.

A night guard, who was on duty, on hearing dogs barking went for round checking at the hostel. On checking the first floor of the said girls hostel, he found one girl hanging by the neck tied to the grill of the window by a cloth towel (Gamcha) above the stairs leading to the terrace, they said.

Her body was taken to Civil Hospital Shillong for necessary formalities.  

A mobile phone blue colour (Samsung Galaxy A03), brown/black spectacle and a Letter (Donation Addressing Letter) was found at the PO were seized in the presence of witnesses, police said.
