    The three days “Children Sports Festival” under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav for children of Child Care Institutions in East Jaintia Hills District organized by the Office of the District Child Protection Unit, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat was inaugurated today by the Addl. Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, A Nongbri, MCS, at Dkhiah West Playground, East Jaintia Hills District.

    Addressing the function as the Chief Guest, A Nongbri, MCS, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, said that sporting activities, exercise, and recreational activities are very important for the physical health and mental well-being of children. “The Children Sports Festival is a platform for children to showcase their skills, talents, to know their strengths and weaknesses,” he said. The Addl. Deputy Commissioner also gave his best wishes to all the children and advised them to show good sportsmanship while participating in the games.

    R Kynjing, District Child Protection Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat in her address welcomed the Chief Guest and the children of the Children’s Home Boys and Girls. She informed that the “Children Sports Festival” was approved by the National Implementation Committee (NIC) and Ministry of Culture, and implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. She also said the sports festival will be organised for three days starting today the 26th April, 2023 till 28th April, 2023.

    During the three days sports festival, children of the Children’s Home both boys and girls will be participating in various games including 100-meter race, Relay Race, Kabbaddi, KhoKho, Tug of war, Dodge ball, Cross country race, Basketball, Football, and Indoor games.

    The first day of the festival started off with games and sports such as 100-meter race, Relay Race, Kabbaddi, KhoKho, Tug of war, Dodge ball, and Long Jump. Medals were also distributed to the winners of these events.
