    JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills District police on Tuesday rescued nine minor girls after they busted a child trafficking racket leading to the arrest eight persons including women. 

    The district police chief Lakador Syiem told reporters that acting on tip off, police immediately conducted a raid and was able to rescue nine juvenile girls. Of these, four girls were rescued from one house at Mihmyntdu village near Jowai town. 

    He also said the success of the operation was with the help of the special juvenile unit, Women police station along with child line, child welfare committee and district social welfare officer. 

    According to him, the issue came up after a missing report of a minor girl from Jowai was filed and it was suspected that it was a case of child trafficking. 

    The SP informed that eight persons including four women have been arrested for their involvement in the racket. 

    The four women have been identified as Dapynbiang Sten (26) from Kyrwen village, Riwandakaru Dann (22) from Ladthadlaboh Jowai, one 18 years old from Sohkymphor village and Sanwaki Dkhar (28) from Khliehiongriang Jowai. 

    He said the other arrested persons include Lemi Ryngkhlem (20), Elison Dkhar (20), Emryngkatmitre Dkhar (20) and  Prosperity Talang (22), who are all from Demthring village. These accused are also involved in raping the victims.
