Child Help Foundation drives lasting change in Northeast through healthcare, education, and relief efforts

Child Help Foundation (CHF), a pan-India non-profit, is transforming lives across Northeast India through a blend of healthcare, education, and humanitarian aid initiatives. Active in Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya, the organization’s efforts are leaving a tangible mark on some of the region’s most vulnerable communities.
Under its Emergency Medical Support Program, CHF has provided life-saving treatment for children battling severe illnesses in Nagaland. Partnering with over 100 hospitals nationwide, the foundation supports procedures such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and bone marrow transplants—bringing hope to families with limited financial means.
Aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), CHF works to ensure that children have access to both formal learning and creative growth. In Assam, CHF organised a vibrant Children’s Day celebration at Athaiaboi Banmaja High School, filled with songs, dances, poems, and art exhibitions.
The organisation supports Assam Andhu Shishu Ashram by covering school fees, supplying stationery, and introducing arts sessions for orphans and children from single-parent homes. Across Assam, over 1,000 students have received stationery kits, helping reduce dropout rates and reignite interest in education after the pandemic.
In Nagaland, CHF’s collaboration with the Nagaland Centre for Human Development (NCHD) has enhanced learning in Indisen and Senjum Government Schools. More than 200 students benefit from activity-based learning, extra coaching, and enrichment sessions. Creative workshops in Dimapur—covering drawing, embroidery, crafts, and language games—have boosted children’s confidence and communication skills.
CHF’s swift disaster response has saved lives and restored dignity during crises. In 2022, when floods devastated parts of Assam, CHF partnered with the Raindrop Foundation and Bernil Pratyasha Foundation to deliver rations, sanitary kits, and first-aid kits to 420 families in Nalbari, Changsari, Kamrup, and Darrang districts. In Silchar, ration kits were distributed in collaboration with Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, ensuring flood-hit families had essentials like rice, dal, oil, and salt.
In Nagaland, CHF’s disaster relief programs between 2017 and 2022 reached over 590 flood-affected individuals with food supplies and necessities.
Through its Child For Child Program, CHF reached 1,464 schools across Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, hosting 122 awareness events. These programs sensitised more than 183,000 students on health and safety issues, indirectly impacting over 3.6 million people by strengthening community resilience.
“At Child Help Foundation, we are committed to ensuring every child, regardless of location, has access to quality healthcare, education, and a nurturing environment,” said Shaji Varghese, CEO of CHF. “Our work in the Northeast is about responding to urgent needs while building sustainable futures through compassion and collaboration.”
From saving lives in hospitals to rebuilding hope after floods, CHF’s mission in the Northeast is clear—uplift communities, empower children, and ensure no one is left behind in the journey toward progress.
