    Chairperson of the Assembly’s Committee on Empowerment of Women Santa Mary Shylla on Tuesday visited Langtor Village in Eastern West Khasi Hills District. 

    The visit was aimed at expressing solidarity and offering condolences to the family and relatives of the late Darisha Lyngdoh, who tragically lost her life along with her two-month-old infant.

    It may be recalled that in a tragic incident, the bodies of Darisha Lyngdoh and her infant were discovered at a water collection site in Kynshi village, Langtor, on 2nd March 2025. The mother and child had been reported missing since 1st March 2025.

    As part of the visit, Shylla, accompanied by other members of the Committee, visited the site where the incident took place. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of the victims. Following this, the delegation proceeded to Mairang Police Station, where they held discussions with the Additional Superintendent of Police, Pyrkhatlang Suchiang, and the Officer-in-Charge to review the status and progress of the ongoing investigation.

    The Chairperson was joined by fellow Committee members Matthew Beyondstar Kurbah, Adelbert Nongrum, and Brightstarwell Marbaniang. The Deputy Commissioner of Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Anita Kharpor, police personnel, the Sordar of Langtor village, and members of the local community were also present during the visit.

    The Committee reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring justice, safeguarding the rights of women and children, and supporting affected families.
