Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said that the COVID-19 transmission chain from the positive cases, who had attended the wedding party at Khanapara, Assam to the society has been broken as no fresh cases were reported for many days.

“There have been no fresh cases (reported) from the wedding incident and we are very hopeful that this chain is broken,” Dr War told reporters on Tuesday.

First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed against 48 persons, who had attended the wedding party at Greenwood Resort, Khanapara in Assam on June 27, by the Deputy Commissioners of East Khasi Hills district and Ri Bhoi district respectively, for violating the many orders promulgated by the state government in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Of the 48 wedding attendees, 39 are from East Khasi Hills and 9 are from Ri Bhoi. It may be mentioned that the wedding incident had led to as many as 23 persons contracting the infection.

Earlier, the East Khasi Hills DC Matsiewdor War Nongbri had informed that car passes were applied for only five persons but 11 vehicles had gone to the wedding party thereby violating the government’s restriction on inter-state movement. According to her, returned passes have never been issued by the district administration.

The DC had also stated that action will be taken against the violators after police investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, the state government had also directed the violators to pay for the quarantine facility at Rs 2,000 per day.
