Centre sanctions Rs 153.36 cr additional aid to Manipur for hailstorm relief

The Central government has approved an additional Rs 153.36 crore for Manipur to support recovery efforts following a devastating hailstorm earlier this year. The decision was taken by a High-Level Committee (HLC) chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday.
The relief assistance, drawn from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), comes with a condition: 50% of Manipur’s opening balance in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the year will be adjusted against this grant.
This financial aid is in addition to the regular disaster response funds already allocated to the states. In the 2024–25 financial year, the Centre disbursed Rs 20,264.40 crore under SDRF to 28 states and Rs 5,160.76 crore under NDRF to 19 states. Additionally, Rs 4,984.25 crore has been released from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 19 states, and Rs 719.72 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to eight states.
For the 2025–26 fiscal year so far, Rs 895.60 crore under SDRF has been released to one state, and Rs 929.63 crore under NDRF to seven states.
The Ministry of Home Affairs emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Union Government remains committed to supporting state governments during natural calamities and ensuring timely assistance to mitigate the impact on affected communities.
