Centre agrees to exempt colleges in Meghalaya from CUET: CM

The Centre on Monday agreed to exempt colleges, which are privately run or are funded and aided by the state government, in Meghalaya from the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

This was informed by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma after his meeting with the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi.

“I had discussed the CUET which is becoming quite a problematic issue for a lot of our colleges which are affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in our state,” he said.

Sangma said the response of the Union Education Minister was very positive on the concern of the colleges and the students from the state.

“They (Centre) have agreed that there will be certain areas in which they will try to exempt some of our colleges which are not necessarily centrally funded which are privately funded through the government or aided by the government – those colleges will not have to give the exams,” he informed.

Stating that the formal communication on the matter will come within a day or two, the chief minister said, “We are hopeful that most of our students who are studying or are planning to study in these colleges which are privately run or are affiliated or funded or aided by the state government they will not have to appear for this exams.”

“I thanked the minister for his positive response and we will wait for the official communication from them to ultimately inform everybody about it,” he added.
