CBI books Nagaland University Dean in bribery and tender scam, raids conducted across three states

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against Dr. Chitta Ranjan Deb, a senior professor and Dean of the School of Sciences at Nagaland University, over alleged involvement in bribery and irregularities in awarding supply orders for scientific equipment and consumables.
According to the CBI, Dr. Deb, who also serves as Director of the university’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and is a faculty member in the Department of Botany, is accused of manipulating procurement processes to grant undue favours to select bidders and companies in exchange for personal monetary gain. The agency alleges that these actions caused wrongful financial losses to Nagaland University.
The CBI carried out search operations on July 12 and the following days at multiple locations linked to the case, including Jorhat (Assam), Lumani (Nagaland), and Agartala (Tripura). The raids led to the recovery of incriminating documents, including evidence of bribe transactions and tender-related files from the offices of the accused and associated bidders.
The investigation is ongoing as the CBI examines the scale and network of the alleged corruption.
