The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Shillong, under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, organised an awareness programme at Kyntiew Shaphrang Higher Secondary School, Laitlyngkot. Held under the themes of Swachhata Hi Seva, Poshan Abhiyan, and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, the event aimed to inspire students and the community to adopt cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable lifestyles.

Dr. L. Jaba, Medical Officer from Laitlyngkot PHC, highlighted the emotional and ecological value of tree planting, linking it to maternal love through Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. He also addressed the importance of nutrition, calling malnutrition a “silent crisis” and urging collective action to build a healthier India. On Swachhata Hi Seva, he cited Mahatma Gandhi’s vision, stressing that cleanliness begins at home and school.

    O. Sumer, District Health and Education Officer, spoke on adolescent nutrition, explaining the role of micronutrients and the importance of iron and folic acid supplementation. She encouraged students to value food and make informed dietary choices.

Anie Swer, Block Coordinator of Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin, emphasized that achieving a clean India is a shared responsibility. She called for active collaboration between students, teachers, and communities, and demonstrated the 7 steps of proper handwashing with student participation.

School Principal Longshisha Shabong welcomed the guests and thanked CBC Shillong for bringing the campaign to the school, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to instilling civic values.

Gopajit Das, Assistant Director of CBC Shillong, delivered the closing remarks. He praised the students’ enthusiasm and called them ambassadors of change. “Grassroots awareness is the first step to national transformation,” he said.

The programme included an art competition and quiz based on themes of hygiene, nutrition, and environment. Winners were awarded certificates and prizes to encourage continued engagement.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to uphold cleanliness, good health, and environmental protection—marking another step in building a better, more aware India.
