CBC Shillong hosts awareness programme at Swer school on national campaigns

As part of its outreach initiatives, the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Shillong, under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, organised an awareness programme at Durbar Village Higher Secondary School, Swer, on May 27.
The event focused on three national campaigns—Swachhata Hi Seva, Poshan Abhiyan, and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam—aiming to promote civic responsibility, environmental awareness, and nutrition. Students and teachers actively participated in planting saplings on the school campus as a tribute to motherhood and a commitment to a greener future.
Annie Swer, Block Coordinator of Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), spoke on the importance of hygiene and sanitation, highlighting waste segregation at source and encouraging students to become cleanliness ambassadors. She also demonstrated the seven steps of handwashing to reinforce hygiene practices.
O. Sumer, District Health Education Officer, addressed adolescent nutrition and anaemia prevention under Poshan Abhiyan. She stressed the importance of a balanced diet, nutritious cooking, and awareness about the value of food. “Healthy children mean a strong future for the nation,” she noted.
In his remarks, Gopajit Das, Assistant Director of CBC Shillong, praised the school and local authorities for their cooperation and underscored the importance of grassroots programmes in building a cleaner, healthier India.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from the school principal, Dmaisingh Mawniuh, who acknowledged the efforts of all departments and stakeholders.
To mark World No Tobacco Day, students held a placard march through the village, spreading awareness about the dangers of tobacco use and advocating for a tobacco-free lifestyle.
The event also featured an art and quiz competition on themes of cleanliness, nutrition, and the environment. Winners were awarded certificates and prizes, encouraging both learning and creativity.
