    Central Bureau of Communication, Guwahati on Wednesday organised a Photo Exhibition observing “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day” at Noonmati High School in Guwahati in honour of the victims and sufferings of people during the partition of India.

    A day-long programme was organised at the school to promote social harmony and strengthen the spirit of oneness and empowerment.

    Attending as the chief guest of the programme, Nabajit Sarma, Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator, Purbanchal circle, underlined the strength of unity while addressing the meeting today. He urged the students to value of togetherness and harmony.

    He said, “Today’s meeting reiterates the importance of unity. We observe this day as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day as a remembrance of the struggles and grim situation of the country during partition. Many were displaced and many lost their lives due to the violence following the partition.” He paid tribute to the ones impacted by India’s partition and reiterated the duty of young citizens to take the country forward in future.

    Recalling the sacrifices and sufferings of the people in history, Ramen Das, vice president of Noonmati High School committee said, “It is because of them that today we stand here. It is because of their sacrifices that we will be celebrating our Independence Day tomorrow.”

    He too underlined the importance of harmony in a nation like ours and urged the students to be responsible citizens to take the country to top in the world.

    Pradip Sarma, Headmaster of Noonmati High School also shed light on the history of India’s independence and said that it is important to uphold the values, unity and promote social harmony.

    Art and quiz competitions were also held among the school students today. The meeting was followed by a cultural programme wherein the Artistes of Song and Drama division of CBC Guwahati presented songs, dance and drama.

    Prizes were distributed among the winners of the competitions held earlier in the day.
