Career guidance seminar held in Jowai; over 700 students participate

More than 700 students attended a Career Guidance Seminar organised Friday by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills, in collaboration with SPM IAS Academy, Guwahati, at the District Library Auditorium, Jowai.
The programme aimed to inspire students and help them explore future career paths. Local MLA and MUDA Chairman Wailadmiki Shylla, Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar Singh (IAS), Superintendent of Police Jaspal Singh Dhanoa (IPS), and District & Sessions Judge N A Khan (MHJS) were present along with other officials.
Deputy Commissioner Singh urged students to make the most of the guidance offered.
MLA Shylla stressed the importance of career counselling, noting that unemployment today affects both educated and uneducated youth. He said opportunities are abundant, but the challenge lies in making the right choices. He encouraged students to reflect on their strengths, nurture their talents with dedication, and remember that “no dream is too small.”
Shylla also stressed the need to stay updated with changing knowledge and opportunities while managing time effectively. He presented a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to singer Deiwitawan Synnah in recognition of his contribution to music and his effort to establish a music school.

Judge Khan highlighted that education should not be confined to academics but should broaden the mind, helping students make informed life choices. Quoting Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, he said education should ignite curiosity and passion. He also underlined the growing scope of law as a career.
SP Dhanoa explained the difference between a job and a career, urging students to find their passion and focus on learning from life beyond books.
The seminar was led by Hridesh Kumar Shrotriya, Director of SPM & Lalan’s, Guwahati, and his team, who shared insights and guidance with the students.
