SHILLONG: BJP Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Rakesh Sinha today said the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) is a pro-people agenda of the saffron party.

Talking to media persons here on Wednesday, Sinha said, “The BJP’s policy is not to harm the people (infact) it is to strengthen and protect the indigenous people, to protect their culture and value, their economic and political rights.”

“So whatever the BJP is bringing the law is to protect the common people and masses, it is not against the people, it is pro-people agenda of the party, it is pro-national agenda of the party which home minister has very clearly defines in the parliament and there has not been any fundamental contest against it.”

Sinha said there can be many question on the modus operandi adding in a democracy you have the right to point things out but the basic principle on which this (CAB) has been based is very correct, genuine and party is very firm on that.

The people of the North eastern states have strongly oppose the move by the Centre to implement the CAB in the region.

Asked, the MP said, “You see there is a micro policy and there is a macro policy. When it gets implemented then things are on the basis of context, time and place. These three things are very important and party has stated policy and that policy is a micro policy when it comes to particular people and state when operation comes, best thing is that Supreme Court has been monitoring in Assam. So nobody has to fear anything as interest of the people would be protected at any cost under Narendra Modi regime.”

Sinha said Modi is the first PM, who has visited North East almost 30 times and he has created history in the country. “This shows his connect with the people, land and culture of the NE,” he said.

On the demand to exempt the CAB from the NE region, the MP however said this is a very sensitive national policy as a member he is in line with the party.  “This policy is in the parliament so I believe that whatever home minister (Amit Shah) had stated I stand by him that BJP is one party where deliberation takes place. And after deliberation, discussion, debate and the local situation, the party will come to the conclusion.”

He said the Prime Minister and the Home minister are very much concern about the people of Meghalaya and NE and so not a single individual has to worry.
