Business establishments in Shillong asked to install CCTV cameras

Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has asserted the importance for people, especially big business establishments, to install CCTVs for their own security.

“Time has come that for their own security, they should install CCTVs (in their respective premises). It really helps in monitoring the activities in and around their own establishments and also the surrounding areas,” Rymbui told reporters on Wednesday.

He cited that private CCTV footage has to a great extent helped the police department to solve a crime scene especially when it comes to instances of theft and other criminal activities.

“Having said that, it is not that the government is shying away from the responsibility to see the safety and security of the state (but we can) supplement whatever we can from the police department,” Rymbui said.

He further assured to review the CCTVs installed by the police department and get a report on how many are not in working condition.
